I have recently been moving all of the websites we manage here at Turnpost from Flywheel to WP Engine. Nothing against the guys who run flywheel, they are great people, but I just don’t think that flywheel is ready for prime time. I have outlined the top 3 reasons below
Both wordpress hosting companies provide support however in the fast paced digital world you need 24/7 support and WP Engine provides that. Flywheel provides chat and email support but mostly during regular business hours, and even then they are not consistent on their support hours or response emails. The majority of time I deal with outages of sites in the morning. Trying to explain to a client that there is site is down and “I’m fixing it” but really waiting for support to respond is a hard pill to swallow. With WP Engine, I have not had to wait for more than a few minutes to chat with someone.
When I started moving sites from media temple to flywheel I was pretty excited with the speed, but the speed even got better when I moved over to WP Engine. Not sure why but just is.
Flywheel does say they will check and if hacked will fix the site however I have had a few site on flywheel get compromised and Flywheel didn’t catch it and they also took a long time to fix it. So long in fact that I had to fix the sites myself. Once fixed mos the clients asked and wanted to know why and it was hard to get a reason from flywheel.
I have yet to have an issue with a site being compromised on WP Engine, and on a few site they have even sent me emails about files that had to be updated before there was an issue.
